The Liivet's Arrival

Tuesday November 23rd was the arrival date of my parents visit and Nige and I had been busy in the weeks previously preparing for their visit.  Unfortunately I returned home from a night shift for Nigel to inform me that Domino had woken up that morning and been unable to use her back legs. We jumped in the car and headed straight to the Vets.  After the vet examined her they said tit could be a prolapsed disk, pressing on the spinal cord.  We  were given anti-inflammatory tablets to give her and asked to pop back in a week to see how she was doing.  So with Domino confined to strict bed rest and having to rely on us for everything, it was a mad rush to finish everything before heading to the airport that evening.

At 8:30 that evening, with Domino tucked up at home in her bed, we greeted my parents as they arrived at Calgary.  We were so pleased to see the and shocked to see that since we'd last seen them, they had lost almost 10 stone between them!  I was working that night so after some dinner and a quick catch up it was an early night for Mum, Dad and Nige and off to work for me, ready for a busy two weeks of a full itinerary!

How Cold?!?

Today at 11am for around 11 minutes Calgary was the second coldest place on earth according to the website www.wx-now.com and the Calgary Herald.  Although we didn't hold the temperature for long, (we soon went down to around 45th) the fact that the news that morning had been reporting temperatures,-36 celsius with windchill making it -42 celsius and advising people to keep all flesh covered when outside in the wind to avoid frost bite on the face and ears.  I must admit that my newly acquired underground/heated parking, more than paid for itself that day!  (Note that the temperature on the photo is in Fahrenheit not Celsius).

Winter 2010 Arrives!

Around 10pm last night, as predicted, the weather front reached Calgary and brought with it heavy snow and strong winds.  This continued through the night and when we woke the following morning it was evident that winter had most definitely arrived!

Halloween Calgary Style

This Halloween we were invited to a friends fancy dress party and below are a few pictures from the evenings events.  We couldn't believe how much thought and effort went into some of the guests costumes and next year we have vowed not to cheat by buying ours!
